Leadership Interrupted, new book available today!

You’re busy. You have meetings to attend and practice to run and donors to meet and games to prepare for and graphics to create and budgets to approve and on and on and on. 10 more emails decided to invade your inbox while reading this.

Busyness is the enemy of great leadership. The good news? You do have the time and you are more than capable of being a leader people want to follow. No matter your position, no matter your title, leadership is for you.

So where to start? That’s where the new book from Kevin DeShazo of Culture Wins Championships, Leadership Interrupted, comes in. For the last 3.5 years, he’s been sending a daily email to leaders in athletics (sign up here to get on that list), challenging and inspiring them to be better leaders. He’s taken 365 of them and put them into a book. It will challenge and inspire you to become the leader you were meant to be.

Leadership is a journey, not an event. This book will be the guide for your leadership journey. It will help you be a better leader in the locker room, in the office and at home. The good news? It’s free for a limited time! Get it for yourself. Have your team get a copy (paperback version will be coming soon).

Right now, it’s #1 on Amazon for Career Guides and #10 in Nonfiction. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to invest in yourself. Are you ready? Go here to get your copy today.

Most of us, if we’re honest, want to be leaders worth following. We want to be intentional in our leadership and create a culture people want to be a part of. The truth is it’s hard. Really hard. We need a constant reminder of who we are, who we are trying to become and what we are tying to build.

Where does everyone spend their time? On their phone. We’re excited to release these iPhone wallpapers (to be used as a background of lock screen) for you all to download. Let them be a constant, visual reminder of what it takes to be a leader worth following. (and when you have them on your phone, tweet us a pic!)

Culture Wins Championships at #NACDA17

Have you ever communicated something to your team and the only response you got was a room full of blank stares? Or maybe you wonder why Greg on your team always comes across as Debbie Downer, with a bullet point list of reasons the idea won’t work. Then there’s Rachel who never seems to realize the reality of your current situation as she comes up with these big, crazy ideas.

The truth is that everyone on your team has a different voice. They receive and process information in a unique way, and they communicate their ideas and objections and hopes and dreams in a unique way. And it’s your job to make sure you’re communicating intentionally so that everyone is together.
As a leader, if you can’t connect you can’t lead. And if you can’t get your team on the same page, you can’t move forward.

Velocity is speed plus alignment. Sometimes, as a leader, you have to slow down to speed up. At #NACDA17, Kevin DeShazo – Fieldhouse Media founder and partner at Culture Wins Championships – will help you discover your leadership voice and learn to communicate effectively with everyone you lead. It’s a system we call the 5 Voices. It’s a practical yet powerful system that we have implemented with athletic programs and businesses across the country.

Here are the times and locations of the sessions:

For MOAA
Monday June 12 in the Denver room
8:05-8:50
8:55-9:40
For NAAD
Wednesday June 14 in Salon J

Plan accordingly, as these will be sessions you won’t want to miss.

Today we’re excited to introduce a new resource for those in the athletics space. Kevin DeShazo, founder of Fieldhouse Media and Fieldhouse Leadership, along with Mark Hodgkin of NeuLion, are launching The Sports Leadership Podcast. It will be a podcast geared toward those working in athletics, focusing on the areas of leadership, social media and professional development. We’ll share insights from our own journeys and experience, as well as tools from GiANT Worldwide that Kevin utilizes in his leadership training sessions with teams.

True to the spirit of athletics, we want this to be a community effort. We want to hear your questions, your suggestions, your insight. So find Mark or Kevin on Twitter and shoot them a message with your thoughts.

Fieldhouse Leadership to present at #NACDA16

We live and work in an “always on” culture. For most of us, the first thing we do in the morning is check our phones to see what emails or tweets we missed. We repeat this same routine before we go to bed at night and hundreds of times throughout the day. This can lead to exhaustion, burnout, job dissatisfaction and relationship stress. Our addiction to work impacts our ability to lead and connect with those around us.

The truth is that work-life balance is not a time issue, it is a mindset issue. And it can be conquered.

We are excited to be presenting a session at #NACDA16 this year on a program we call the 5 Gears: how to be both present and productive when there is never enough time. We’ll be doing three sessions on the 5 Gears. Look at the schedule below and let us know if you’ll be there!

NAAC
5 Gears of Connectivity: How to be Present and Productive When There’s Never Enough Time
Saturday, June 11 from 3:40-4:30p in Governors Lecture Hall
Sunday, June 12 from 10:00-10:50a in Senators Lecture Hall

D2 ADA (open to all NACDA registrants)
5 Gears of Connectivity: How to be Present and Productive When There’s Never Enough Time
Wednesday, June 15 from 2:30-3:30p

Looking forward to seeing everyone in Dallas!

When we are in the wrong gear at the wrong time, we undermine our influence. This session will equip with you practical ways to structure your day for both maximum productivity and presence. To understand the meaning of being in the right gear at the right time.

This is a powerful concept we have implemented with a number of athletics departments (as well as corporate organizations like Arby’s, Coca Cola, Ford Motor Co and more) and the common response is, “This just works.”

We hope to see you there!

Join us for the 100X Teams Leadership Conference

What does every coach want? For his or her team to be as healthy as possible to produce wins and create a winning culture. The same is true inside each department. What if we focused the same amount of energy to help grow each team member to their highest possible level, while creating a culture where everyone plays in their sweet spot? What would that look like? What impact would that have on your team and athletics department?

That’s the idea of a 100X Leader. That is what we intend to help you do.
